A Family Escape in Stowe
Stowe makes it easy to keep the whole family happy, with mountain adventures, time on the water, laid-back trails, and plenty of sweet Vermont treats along the way.
Spend your first day soaking up Stowe’s outdoor side with a ride up the Gondola at Stowe Mountain Resort, followed by a family-friendly stroll or bike along the Stowe Recreation Path, a scenic, mostly flat trail that winds through meadows and along the river. On day two, get on the water with a kayak or paddleboard rental at Lake Elmore or the Waterbury Reservoir, then head to Smugglers’ Notch for a short hike to Bingham Falls, a refreshing swimming hole on warm days. For a dose of wellness, treat the grown-ups to a soak and massage at the Spa at Stowe Mountain Lodge while kids enjoy the resort pool, or try a family yoga class on the lawn. Round out your final day with fun for everyone: tour the Ben & Jerry’s factory in nearby Waterbury, pick your own berries at a local farm, and take a ride on the alpine slide at Stowe Mountain Resort, then finish with sunset ice cream (or a maple creemee) on the Recreation Path.
