Faraway Sag Harbor: The Hamptons’ New Harborfront Hotel

Baron’s Cove sat on Sag Harbor’s waterfront for years. Shingle-style, a little worn in, the kind of inn regulars assumed would just keep going. Then in June 2026, it didn’t. Faraway Hotels tore the property down to the studs and rebuilt it as Faraway Sag Harbor, a 67-room harborfront property.

The Harbor Didn’t Change. Almost Everything Else Did

Sag Harbor has always played second fiddle to East Hampton and Southampton, and that’s mostly worked in its favor. Real docks, whaling-era storefronts on Main Street, a lot fewer people trying to get past a velvet rope. Faraway Sag Harbor doesn’t fight that identity. You walk out of the lobby onto the same water that’s been there for two centuries, not a manufactured version.

67 Rooms

Small on purpose. In a summer when many Hamptons properties are adding rooms and event space, Faraway kept the count down so that it feels more like a private compound than a resort chasing occupancy. A second Faraway is coming to Jackson Hole by next summer too, so this isn’t a one-off. It’s a brand betting that fewer rooms and more attention beats scale.

Zagara, a Pool, and a Padel Court

Zagara is the restaurant. It’s giving Amalfi Coast vibes, and is clearly meant to be where the property’s social life happens. There’s also a heated pool, a padel court, and an ONDA Beauty spa residency.

Why Book This Summer and Not Wait

Faraway Sag Harbor opened right at the start of the season. That matters less for bragging rights and more for timing: this is the window before the design press cycle finishes and every Hamptons list from here to Labor Day has it pinned at the top. Baron’s Cove loyalists will recognize the dock. They won’t recognize much else, and that’s the whole idea behind a full rebuild instead of a refresh.

Our Travel Designers already keep a running list of which Hamptons properties are worth booking for a client’s one open weekend this summer. Faraway Sag Harbor is on it now. A harborfront room, a table at Zagara, maybe a North Fork wine day tacked on or an afternoon boat over to Shelter Island, whatever actually fits the trip instead of what a generic itinerary assumes everyone wants.
